The other day I saw this great new idea out there for photographers famous and not so famous. After Google+ started a while back a bunch of photographers jumped on and started sharing their photos. Ivan Markarov started a group and hangouts (something special in Google+) the photographers shared and commented and shared and it gave Mr. Markarov an idea.
He gave a deadline for the photos to come in and talked to Blurb, a leading photobook company, about helping them out and figured out a good cause to help support which ended up to be KIVA. Soon the photobook was created.
This is from the Forbes article where I found the story:
The e-book is more expansive –521 pages of images from every photographer who submitted on deadline. While the collection includes work from some of the who’s who in professional photography, it was a definite democratic feel.
“We decided to open it to anyone who was interested in photography,” says Markarov, the book’s editor. “What we found was that many of the amateur photographers sent in pictures every bit as good as the pros.” Proceeds from the book, which cost $75 for the hardback, $65 for the softcover and only $5 for the e-book, will benefit Kiva, which facilitates “affordable capital for people to improve their own lives.”
